Hi,
Let me start by giving some context. WE use SRM 5.5 and ESXI 5.5. We have a 200MBPS dedicated fiber connection between sites. We are not using SAN replication instead using the vsphere replication. We do have EMC storage arrays on both ends but wanted VMware level array replication I know it exists now but didn't when we started.
The failover process takes about 20-30 minutes for all the VMS. However, the problems start when we reprotect. I have a sample recovery of a windows 8 machine that is 40GB in size, i initiate a DR plan and it does its thing. Then I immediately run a reprotect 0 blocks of data have changed in this time and it what it does is terrible. While running a network monitor trace it sends 40GB of data, when running replication commands on ESXI i see it synching data in 6.9 GB chunks at a time. It is not doing what I would consider a checksum.
So whats the problem? I opened a ticket and support has no clue. It takes 45 minutes or so on 200MBPS circuit to do the reprotect for a single 40GB VM...... Now if we tried to reprotect all 12TB's of VMs we would be screwed.
