Do I need to shut the SRM server down to move it?

I am trying to find out if it's ok to run SRM between 2 different processor family's and different EVC settings between the clusters.
I believe that the systems would potentially require an extra reboot on the recovery site.
While I do not find anything that says this would be an issue but I am just wanting to validate that my beliefs are correct.
In an attempt to cut down on amount of data that is being replicated via NetApp snapmirror, I configured the cluster to use a separate swap disk. Then I rebooted one of the vms. But I don't know how to tell if it is actually using the swap disk
Hi,
We like the automation capabilities that SRM gives us for DR and it works really well but we would like to try and perform some form of ping test on each of the recovered virtual machines and email the result. This would save us time when we perform our checks after the recovery.
Does anyone know if there is a way to perform this type of task using Powercli utilising the list of recovered virtual machines rather than having a static list that needs to be manually updated when a new VM is added or removed?
Cheers
Chris
Hello,
I'm implementing SRM 5.1 with NetApp (With SnapMirror) and I have several questions:
- Replication of volumes through the array manager, run correctly
- How do the replication of virtual machines with RDM? can also be done through array manager (with SnapMirror) or better do it with vSphere Replication. Can be performed by vSphere Replication?
- Do any advice for replication of virtual machines in a cluster of Microsoft?
thanks for all!
Using vsphere & srm 5.0.1
Would it be possible to protect/recover a virtual server using two different sra’s? Scenario would be the OS on a vmfs data store would be protected using IBM SVC SRA. Then a pRDM mapped to the same virtual server would be protected using the IBM DS8K SRA.
I should clarify all the data will be on the same IBM DS8K array, we just need to take away the IBM SVC that is in front of some of the data on pRDM's.
Thank you
Hi All
I wonder if anyone can help.
We have 2 IBM Storwize V7000's - 1 at the Protected Site and 1 at the Recovery Site.
We have a test Volume that is GlobalMirror 'repliacted' to the DR side - showing 'Consistent Synchronized'.
Within SRM 5.0 - Array Managers I can see that the Volume is found and replicated as expected. Not sure if our replicated Volume needs to be in a Consisteny group tho?
When we run a Recovery Plan it fails at Step 4. and we get this error:-
4. Create Writeable Storage Snapshot | Error - Failed to create snapshots of replica devices. SRA command 'testFailoverStart' failed. sraError.38295F72-F7D0-4A0F-B8D4-FF9821AB2675.1.desc sraError.38295F72-F7D0-4A0F-B8D4-FF9821AB2675.1.fixHint |
We are using the IBM V7000 SRA version 2.x (downloaded from VMware). Our IBM V7000's are Firmware 6.2.0.5.
The SRA is configured with the tick box 'Pre-Configured Env.' ticked. All other settings greyed out (as shown):
I have set the Advanced Settings option: storage.Commandtimeout to 1800 in 'Sites' as suggested by IBM.
Has anyone out there got their IBM V7000's working with SRM 5.0? If so are we missing a piece of the jigsaw somewhere? Does the DR side (on the V7000) need a FlashCopy Mapping as well?
Thanks in advance.
All,
The question at hand is do we failover a production sql server that requires protection through SRM 5.1, but houses the current protected site vsphere database. Will we have issues if the sql server fails over with the vsphere database, as the recovery site has it's own vsphere database? Or does it not matter as the recovery site vm's are registered to a different sql server?
Please let me know if you require any more details, as I will provide whatever is necessary
Regards,
Jon
Hello all.
We are in very urgent situation since the release of SRM 5.0 because there was no SRA for the IBM DS8000 series
Recently VMware announced SRA availability for the DS8000 using microcode ver. 7.0 .
IBM told us that this level of microcode will never be used in DS8100 & DS83000 storages.
How can we overcome this ?
Can we use this SRA with the latest 6.x microcode, or this is not recommended?
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks in advanced
i want to know whether there is an exam for VMware site recovery manager? Something like VCP-DV, VCP-DT etc...and also please tell me the exam code and the exam fee....
Hi all
I am attempting to install the pluggins for SRM so I can start using SRM and testing it before putting it into production.
Our EMC colleague gave me 3 pluggins to install.
These two had to be installed on the vCentre which was done successfully:
emc-vsi-pm-5.3.0-vmware-vsphere-WINDOWS-x86
emc-vsi-sv-5.3.0-vmware-vsphere-WINDOWS-x86
I was then given this and told to install once the top two where installed:
emc-vsi-sra-5.3.0-vmware-vsphere-WINDOWS-x86
But of course it doesnt work and returns message which is attached.
We had an EMC person which was suppose to assist us with this but this did not happen and due to time constraints I have to continue and try it myself.
Our set up
vCentre 5.0 in primary site
vCentre 5.0 in recovery site
SRM 5.0 installed on own server in primary site
SRM 5.0 installed on own server in recovery site
Both sites are linked through SRM successfully.
EMC symmetrix
I have mapped folders, datacentres in the SRM between sites but I am now at the array replication part.
Any help would be great.
Hope I have covered enough information...
Hello all .
Help is needed.
I have the following environment: Vcenter 5.1.0.Build 947673 vi client 5.1.0 Build 941893 esxi 5.1.0 Build 799733 & SRM 5.1.1 Build 1082082.
After deploying VR Appliance and registering it to vcenter, i don't see any appliance object in vi srm plugin under srm local site.
If i try to register the appliance as a VR server i had the following error:
But if i try to deploy and register another appliance as vr server it succeeded and i can see only this vr server under the local site
Any help will be appeciated
Hi everyone,
I'm having issues with this SRA version 2.1! The installation went just fine on both sites. Pairing and mapping is functional between two VCenters.
I have VCenter 5.1, SRM 5.1 running together on a W2K8 R2 on both sites.
After the SRA installation, i tried to "Add Array Manager" on VSphere Client SRM GUI, and i got the error: "Unable to find any array script (SRA) files. You must install SRAs before adding an array manager"
If i try to "Rescan SRAs" i have this error message: "Failed to load SRA from 'E:/Program Files/VMware/VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager/storage/sra/array-type-recoverpoint'. SRA command 'queryInfo' didn't return a response"
Tried to restart/reinstall several times, but it didn't work!
I have exactly the same symptoms on both SRM servers!
Did anyone face this problem?
Thank you
Hello, we are planning to set up recovery site on our environment. Because of it's price we are not going to use array-based replication. We have 2 windows server 2008 R2 servers as a cluster of file services. To set it up we used bus sharing SCSI drives.(didn't use LUN Mappings). is there would be any problem if I replicate using VR replication these servers to other site? I mean does SRM 5.1 VR replication method supports replication of bus sharing SCSI disks?
Thank you in advance!!
Hi, folks.
I am using a 2050 in production and a 2040 in DR, both using iSCSI LUNs. My SRM Recovery test errors at step 8.0 -- mounting the replicated datastores -- with the error "Failed to promote replica devices" and " "Failed to map the SAN device on an igroup of ostype vmware" . I have multiple igroups of ostype vmware on the 2040, each with the same ESXi information.
Anybody experiance this before?
Hi All,
I have been looking around for a way of automating the enabling of SRM on virtual machines (to be manually initiated on selected VMs or as an option when a VM is deployed via a workflow) but can’t seem to find anything.
I would like to know if it’s possible to use a workflow/PowerCLI to perform all the steps necessary to protect a VM with SRM (array based replication not vSphere replication) e.g. putting into the correct (replicated) datastore, adding it into a protection group, recovery plan etc. Do you know of any way of achieving this?
Thanks
Hi,
I'm having trouble in configuring SRA with IBM DS3500.
When I'm going to add an array manager, the wizard returns an error "Unable to add array manager - SRA command 'discoverArrays' failed. Invalid Subsystem Connection Parameters: One or both IP addresses is invalid. IP1=10.0.15.23 IP2=10.0.15.24. Re-enter configuration information and retry operation".
I have primary site with DS3500 and a secondary site with DS3500 too. vCenters and SRMs are 5.1, SRAs are 05.10.3500.0016.
vCenters, SRMs, 4 controllers DS all in the same subnet.

hello,
I have SRM 5.1, with SRA 2.1 of NetApp. And when I try recovery, stop in step 8 (Change Recovery Site Storage Writable) and show this error: Failed to map the SAN devices on an igroup of ostype vmware. Ensure that device is not mapped to an already existing igroup.
On Site Principal, NetApp 2040 is Fibre Chhanel, and on Site Secundary is mapped by iSCSI
Could you help me?
Thanks!
Hi, excuse me for my English and I will try to translate the error message from my vSphere GUI
I recently implemented SRM 5.1 and try to configure a DR between 2 sites (A, B). Everything seems working fine and I want to try a disaster recovery with migrating a server not really critic.
1. The replication working fine, my server goes to site B and working fine
2. I click reprotect and work again
3. I recover to have my server back to site A
4. Recovered with error... the problem begin
My server running now on site A but I lose my protection. I want to configure again my replication and make sure of my server is not in my SRM configuration but I have an error occured saying of my server cannot be configure because is alreay replicated!?!? I can't see anywhere in SRM where is my server configuration...
Can you help me with that?
We're using VSC to quiesce VMs and back them up, then initiate a SnapMirror replication. SRM only sees the most recent snapshot, which is the SnapMirror's and not the VSC snapshot. So when we test, VMs are spun up and filesystems have to be checked because the quiesced VM is not what is being used.
How can I get SRM to use the most recent VSC (smvi_datastore1_timestamp-here) snapshot?
Thanks
